Happy Day

Image
Yesterday was Happy's fifth birthday. This was a special day because I am pretty sure this was her first birthday that was actually celebrated. Happy is technically my foster dog, I was given her to wait for her to come into heat and then I was getting the money from her pups for my adoption fund. She came to me with rotting teeth, matted hair, and so meek it broke my heart. My breeder friend got her from a woman who no longer wanted her. Well it was quite clear that she never loved this precious baby. I fell in love with this dog. She will always be a member of my family, one way or another. Happy has come out of her shell so much.  She truly enjoys life, her two fur companions, and of course her momma!  And what happened on Happy's special day, a thunder snow storm- in The Carolina's. Happy birthday my little havanese, you are truly a gift from God.

Miss Scarlet

Today is Valentines Day and though I am single yet again, it is a very special day. Three years ago today, a little havanese was placed in my arms. Miss Scarlet O'Hara is a light in my life. She has gotten me through very hard times. She is loyal, sassy, and every bit of her name sake. Scarlet has never been a normal dog- she does not sleep at night, she gives the best dirty looks, and she will cuddle on end each morning. Scarlet also brought my adoption advocate Stephanie in my life. Stephanie started out as a breeder and I can honestly say, she is now a true friend. Without her, I may not have started this brave journey. Also, without her, I would not have not one, not two, but three do the best dogs ever. Happy Valentines Day to all and especially my Scarlet, who is the best present of all!!!!

Doldrums

Well I went into this weekend wanting to do nothing but relax. During the week, I was fighting a cold and didn't get a lot of sleep. Friday I went out to dinner with my good friend Erika. Erika will be Annie Margaret's Godmother. She has been a true friend and one I am honored to have in my life.  Saturday, I relaxed and as I was getting up to go to bed, I turned on the lights and about fainted. My poor little Scarlet's right eye was red and swollen. I went into panic mode, threw a Benadryl down her throat, and tried not to cry. About a year ago, Scarlets entire face swelled and I had to rush her to the Drs.  Well I immediately texted my vet, who of course didn't answer because it was late. I then called and woke up my parents. We decided it would be best to sit tight and see how it went. Lets just say a few hundred dollar ER vet bill was not what I needed right now. I stayed up four about 90 minutes, making sure her airway was not obstructed. This was definitely not wh...

Facing the Giants

Well it is officially Superbowl Sunday and those that know me, know I could care less. I have never been into Football but I sure love a new halftime show. Last night I decided to celebrate by watching the football movie Facing the Giants. Let me tell you, it is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I cried through the entire thing. For those who have never heard of it, it is about a down and out high school football coach who turns to God to turn his life around. I didn't think it was possible to grow closer to God but after watching this movie, my Faith got kicked up a notch. If public schools weren't so up in arms about mentioning God in school, I would show this movie to my students. It was AMAZING. I could quote this movie anytime I feel down. Even though I am going through a rough time with the whole stalemate thing, I truly believe that my God will continue to bring Annie Margaret to my arms. I have to put my trust in Him that she is safe, and loved.

Stalemate

I think the title post says it all.....I am at a stalemate. There is absolutely nothing I can do but wait. The sad truth is that my wait will most likely not be a short one. The process of international adoption is full of unknowns. These last two nights have been hard. I feel lonely, lonely for my daughter, whom I have never even laid eyes on. I lay in bed praying ( ok maybe it is a little pleading too). I have also decided to take some time off from contacting my agency. I am used to finding little excuses to contact them in the hope they will say " by the way we have your referral!"  Silly I know. My wonderful caseworker deserves a break. I know things will get better. I will get in a routine where my pending referral is not on my mind 24/7. It has to, right?  In the mean time, I will enjoy life, my dogs, my family, and friends. I am laying in front of my fireplace with three sleeping dogs surrounding me. Things could always be worse;).
